  • Everytime I listen to you guys try to sway Andrea into Final Fantasy, I sigh in exasperation. Namely because, much as I love Final Fantasy, I don’t know if there is any classic FF that would rope a new player into it. They’re weight down by old, antiquated mechanics that, unless they played it at the time it came out, no one today would have the patience for it. Fortunately, I have the perfect alternative. Chrono Trigger.

It was so ahead of its time that it’s as playable and enjoyable today as it was the day it came out. It has no random battles (save for a couple of ambushes). You never have to grind (so long as you never skip a battle along the critical path). The music is absolutely amazing. And the story is fun with some pretty interesting characters. Also you can finish it in less than 30 hours.

It’s not Final Fantasy, but it’s made by Hironobu Sakaguchi, a.k.a. the guy who made Final Fantasy 1 through 9. I believe that this is the closest thing a gamer today can get to getting the feel of classic Final Fantasy game without actually playing a classic FF.

    good luck
